LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Ethan Hawke is "purging" himself of the Hollywood lifestyle and heading back to Broadway, according to the Lincoln Center Theater.
Hawke, whose film "The Purge" is still performing strongly at the box office, will be playing the title role in Shakespeare tragedy, "Macbeth." The Lincoln Center Theater production will reunite the actor with director Jack O'Brien.
Hawke returns to the venue where he starred in "Henry IV" and "The Coast of Utopia" - the latter of which he was nominated for a Tony Award - with "Macbeth." Alan Cumming is currently performing a one-man version of "Macbeth" on Broadway, but the show is closing in July.
Hawke is also starring in the romantic drama "Before Midnight," the third film in a series with "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset."
The production will have sets by Scott Pask, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Japhy Weideman and original music and sound design by Mark Bennett. The curtain rises on Hawke's "Macbeth" October 24.
